Health Screenings are at the Top of Preventive Wellness Strategies

Preventive healthcare for employees is of top priority to many businesses. Of the preventive strategies within a wellness program, health screenings are at the top of the list.

There have been a number of accounts wherein employees, through health screenings, were informed they had a health condition they were unaware of. In a couple of instances, cancer was detected and the informed employees were able to get life-saving needed medical attention.

One such employee is Ellen Binder, a reading teacher at Martha B. King Middle School in Bradenton. Through a wellness screening provided at the workplace, Binder found she had a precancerous growth near her pancreas.

“I went through several procedures for removal and ended up at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where I was considered an anomaly because it’s rare to detect pancreatic growths in early stages without symptoms,” explained Binder. “In some ways it saved my life because of what the growth could have become.”

Obviously, not all companies are able to simply jump into a comprehensive employee wellness program, some may need the help of investors to bring their facilities up to date in order to effectively utilize wellness strategies.

Tippecanoe County, Indiana is an example of an entity seeking outside help. Last year, the county “took bids on two prospective county projects – one to upgrade the County Office Building’s cooling systems and the other to retrofit the employee wellness center.”
